Question 1
Is there any free software for virus's?... Do you know if it is possible to get adobe mcafee for free?
Answers
1) mcafee & avg are both free, i can't think of any others.
you can go to 'premium' versions of both of them which only ramp up the speed of scans, but also costs a couple bucks. - Alex
2) http://www.avast.com is free and good ! - frank21142226
3) There are alot of free av programs. Never heard of adobe mcafee,,
There is adobe.com and there is a mcafee site. but no adobe mcafee ~ - Jasper
4) Do this on-line scan first : http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
only if you might be worried that you could be infected now.
then go and get avast for full time protection,
you can not get a better anti virus system for free.
it has many features you will have to pay for in other systems.
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
don't forget to register or you will only have it for 60 days
by registering you will get a license for a full year.
just re-register at the end of the year to get another one year license.
if you feel you would be even safer with a software firewall
then
try this one it's also free and it has no conflicts with avast
http://www.pctools.com/firewall/
or this one
http://free.agnitum.com/
and if you don't like the look of avast then try Avira
http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html
the trouble with this one is the pop ups nagging you to buy a full system
and the relentless false positives.
or another good free one is Microsoft Security Essentials
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
you have a few choices here
just pick what looks good to you
they all work well remember
you must only have one anti virus system running
on your computer at any time.

Question 3
How do you reset your computer password?... i put a password on my computer, but when i try to log in i can never get it right, so i tried to reset the password, but i need to create a password reset disk, but i cant do that on my computer because i cant get in. and when i tried to use my friends computer it wont let me. HELP!
Answers
1) Shame,, now you need to reinstall the OS.. do not use password this time. or if you do,, you may want to write it down, or make a recovery disk right away this time. ~ - Jasper
2) I think you need to get into the BIOS to remove the password. But you'd be better to get help from someone who knows what they're doing. It involves pressing F2/F8 (depending on your computer) to access it when the computer boots up - but before it loads Wiindows. - Gerry Attric
3) Unfortunately there is not much you can do aside from reinstalling OS. Or you can take to a professional who should have software to get in and reset. I do have this software but I won't share it here.. do to hackers and such.. Good Luck

5) 1rd Method:
Try following trick which is actually a loophole in Windows XP Setup and a big security hole:
A. Boot using Windows XP Setup CD and follow the instruction like Accepting EULA, etc.
B. When it asks to repair your existing Windows installation, accept it and press "R" to run the repair.
C. Setup will start repairing your Windows and will start copying files, etc.
D. After a few minutes setup will restart your system and when it restarts don't press any key when it shows "Press any key to continue..." otherwise Setup will start from the beginning. Don't press any key and setup will resume where it left.
E. Now it'll start doing other tasks and will show a small progressbar with a few details in left side.
F. Look carefully at the details and when it shows "Installing devices", press <Shift>+F10 keys in your keyboard.
G. It'll open a Command Prompt window. Now type nusrmgr.cpl and press <Enter>.
H. It'll open the same "User Accounts" window which you see in Control Panel.
I. Now you can remove or reset any account password without any problem.
2th Method:
There are many 3rd party utilities which claim to recover forgotten Windows password:
Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 Service: http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com
Windows Password Recovery Tool is a program that works instantly to remove any lost or forgotten password. Simply boot your PC from the supplied Boot CD, and get access to forgotten Windows and administrator passwords in just seconds. Their method is so much faster/easier, and works great!

6) Hi There,
Evidently the virus has embedded itself in a boot file and it keeps starting itself again. This virus has probably infested your restore point files and maybe even the master boot record.
The last resort to rid yourself of this virus is this:
Turn off "System Restore". System restore locks itself against being scanned and turning it off allows Malwarebytes to remove it.
Next boot up into safe mode and do your antivirus scan again.
Before doing the scan make sure the system restore is turned off then do the scan. I would scan with the antivirus and Malwarebytes application (first one then the other).
If that does not work try booting up again in safe mode with internet access and go to " Housecall" and have them do a scan. You might have to purchase the application for removal but if so it might be worth the money.
Running in safe mode is slower so give it some time.
If that does not do the job I see no way to clean your computer except a complete reinstall. (format then reinstall).
A note of caution: Be sure to scan any files you have saved lately, especially any jpg files before you open them up.
I lost several disks of photos because a virus had infected the jpg files. Had I opened up any of the pics the virus would have infected my computer again.
Hope this helps,
Al - Albert W

Computer won't let me do anything past homepage?... Luckily I have two computers so I can ask this question. I have a dell that I bought last year and it has windows vista on it. The past few days I have been getting tons of pop-ups, although I can find no program in the programs that may have downloaded itself, and nothing found on the scanner. Now, when I get on internet explorer (8) it will let me on the homepage, but anytime I try to get on another page from there, by either typing it in the address bar or clicking a link, it says internet explorer has stopped working, then the page goes white and something comes up saying page has been recovered and takes me right back to my homepage. Keeping a File in Recycle Bin - Safe?... Keeping a File in Recycle Bin - Is it a safe place from Hackers ? Or a Foolish Idea ?
Answers
1) If its an important file I don't think the best place to keep it is the recycle bin. It could be gone if you accidentally empty it. A safer place to keep the file would be on a flash drive or something that can be disconnected from your computer and only accessed when you need it. - lanc1988
2) Not really. It's subject to deletion at any time. - Irish
3) Nope,
If you have a good antivirus system it wouldnt be subject to hackers, but you could possibly or accidentally delete it. If it's really important, save it on a flash drive or in your Documents folder. - ben95111
4) Keeping a computer in your house - Safe? - S.H. Rooms
5) Lol first of all. If you place a file in the Recycle Bin, you might accidentally delete it.
Secondly, hackers can access a file that you have removed by using the recycle bin. Why? Because when you delete something from your hard drive, it isn't removed until you write on the same spot again.
So... to answer your question, it's a foolish idea. - Bacalao

What are computer security risks?... What different types of security risks threaten school computers? What are some safeguards that minimize security risks
Answers
1) use a virus program - Tumbler
2) spyware, adware, worms, nasty viruses that can corrupt the computer. A safeguard should include a good firewall and anti virus program. You can also minimize risks by being very careful where you surf the web. Many sites are very dangerous for your system. - jd59
3) All types of malwares, software designed with malicious intent to damage or steal data. The most common are known as viruses and spyware.
Some safeguards can be the use of an antivirus and an antispware. Also, using the Parental Controls on school computers can help. Still, my best recommendation is to apply a good network security by limiting the accesses a student can have in a school computer. - Bacalao

If you were willing to shell out a little bit of money for Norton Antivirus or AVG Anti-Virus + (free) WIndows Defender from Microsoft, you would not need to worry. If one of these programs detected malware, it would say so, and it is clear that AVG or Norton or Defender makes that claim, not some fake popup. - lolvark

Question 2

- Bacalao
4) For school computers , it is the kids who use a proxy, if able, Reason this is a risk is you do not know what comes with that proxy. read this.

Why does my computer have a box that says virus detected and also makes a screeching sound when it is detected?... Anyone know a antivirus program completely FREE!!!
Answers
1) http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx - Double R
2) http://www.free-av.com/ try this, avast is also free - liketolisten
3) You may want to check for malware using free malwarebytes antimalware.
~ - Jasper
4) What you have is so-called scareware. It is a pop-up that fools you into believing that your computer has a virus, then directs you to a "fix it" site that (1) charges a lot for nothing, and/or (2) downloads a real nasty piece of malware.
- lolvark
