[Subject]How can I delete or remove the following viruses?
[Question]
I am using symantec antivirus and when I did a scan to my computer it displayed the following programs or these so called heuristics:
AntiVirus2008
Packed.Generic.209
Trojan Horse
Trojan.Bredolab
Some of these files cannot be cleaned neither deleted and I'm really worried that they're affecting my computer cause for example when I click on something or try to load something an error is displayed...
What shall I do? I really want to avoid formatting my computer! Any other effective alternatives please?

Tejas @ 2009-07-08 01:48:43
You should search google for "anti XXXX download" where XXXX is the name of your virus and check the returned results from well known antivirus producers ( symantec , mcafee , bitdefender , etc ) .
many viruses are just detected by the antivirus but they cannot be "removed" so they build a peace of software ( tool ) dedicated to that one . usualy these tools are free for download and offers a quick and safe removal.
regarding antivirus2-008 you can read this post : http://www.myitarticles.com/remove-antivirus2008-description-and-removal-instructions/

Recently my desktop was infected with this Ahsan computer virus, the virus came from my cousin mobile phone memory card. I was quite happy as after a long time I had to deal with this virus called Ahsan Virus which was quite easy to remove. I removed this virus without any anti virus in around 5 minutes only.

For all the information you need on this PC parasite, Antivirus 2008, you should check out:
http://www.pcthreat.com/parasitebyid-6848en.html
Download the FREE infection scanner (this way you will know if there are any other viruses embedded on your system) - and then follow the detailed instructions provided, on how to rid your system of the PC parasites embedded within.
You should make sure that your anti-virus software is up-to-date. For the FREE edition of AVG you can go here:

You should also upgrade your anti-spyware, and ensure it is fully functional.

Be careful of proxies. First of all proxies tend to leak information via flash, java etc. Second, a lot of them are set up by hackers to get to your computer.
If you want to do this right you need ot look into a personal VPN. The VPN encrypts your entire network connection which proxies can't do. This ensures that all the information flowing out stays in the encrypted tunnel that exits at their server and their IP address.
HasJ @ 2009-07-08 01:56:53
Of course they don't. You can still be traced. Still if you want hand all your personal details to interested parties then go ahead use proxies.
Have a read of this if you don't believe me ►

Free online Ip blocker service. Block every ip address from your website is simple by just placing a javascript code into your document.
Manu @ 2009-07-08 02:55:50
The site that you have visited and their program cost money and their probably use list of free proxy server public available to anyone.
You can find list of free proxies on http://www.proxyblind.org
If you prefer free proxy program then you can use TOR from http://www.torproject.org/ or JAP from http://anon.inf.tu-dresden.de/index_en.html
If you would like programs with faster speed that use stable and fast proxies then try GhostSurf availabel from http://www.proxyblind.org/ghostsurf.shtml

My favorite service is Open DNS.

[Subject]I cannot delete a cookie!?
[Question]
I have a web application that is deployed already, and it has incorrectly set a cookie with the path "/xx/yy/zz/" (note the '/' at the end) and it should be "/xx". I have fixed the bug, but i CANNOT delete the faulty cookie. Its being read unfortunately, and it won't let users log out the system.
I have tried both javascript and Java methods to do this, which I know work (because they work properly on the correct path).
Anybody have any ideas?
It is on thousands of clients' browsers now, and they cannot be expected, nor are they able to delete the cookies from their browsers manually..
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks
Sorry, but how is shutting down or using safe mode going to help Firefox or IE delete cookies on my client's computers??
Because the java cookie reader does NOT take the path into account, so the fixed version has the same name as the broken one.
I can change the name of the cookie, but its just a bit messy and has consequences, and I was hoping for a more elegant solution..

if you cant delete a cookie, eat it
Red Sky @ 2009-07-08 03:38:19
try booting into safe mode the delete it
Bomber @ 2009-07-08 03:38:53
TRY SHUTTING DOWN AND REBOOT IN SAFE MODE. I FIND I CAN DELETE SOME COOKIES THIS WAY FAR BETTER.
hendrebeatty @ 2009-07-08 03:39:29
Oops! ;-)
Well, the cookies will just have to stay on people's browsers. You'll have to make a new cookie and set up your application to use the new ones and ignore the old ones.
Henry Hedgehog @ 2009-07-08 03:43:24
Did you create the cookie using PHP or some other language? I find that I can only delete a cookie in the language it was coded in (Not sure why but I'm not an expert at this).
Try verifying all your code is right (Which I'm sure you would have done) and that nothing else is re-creating the cookie after you've deleted it.
Sorry if I'm not much help.
EDIT:
Just re-read your question and noticed something. If the cookie is faulty, why are you still reading it? As another answerer said, just ignore it and use the new one. So long as it doesn't contain anything to severely compromise a users security or account then it should be fine to ignore it. You also really should have checked that you application worked 100% before going live.
Robobuilder @ 2009-07-08 03:47:56
if you made it yourself and think that it's not some sort of virus then you better delete reformat your computer....LOL! just joking. There are freeware utility software there you can download like glary utilities. download it in download.com
just browse that software in that site--glary utilities.
Marxman @ 2009-07-08 04:08:48
search for the name of the cookie file on your machine and manually delete it.

The name is AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.5.374
You can download it from here:
http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?tag=contentBody;mostPopTwoColWrap
But if you are willing, I would like to suggest Avast Home edition (Free) which is a really good anti-virus (tried and tested by me for nearly four years)
You can download Avast Here:

eer reviews have been used in the research and scientific communities for centuries as a means to establish the quality of work prior to publication. When a paper is proposed for publication in a "peer reviewed" journal, the journal's editor sends the paper to people who have expertise in the subject matter of the paper. These reviewers evaluate the quality of the paper and make a recommendation as to whether or not it is suitable for publication. The reviewers may also provide comments that they feel should be addressed before the paper is published.
Manu @ 2009-07-08 02:42:05
Forget AVG
For your Anti-Virus......(Always use only 1 A-V)
For your anti-virus needs, I would suggest Avira AntiVir® PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than many of "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. And did I mention that it's free!

There must have been a problem. That just happened to me, and I get real pissed when it freezes, or says there's a problem, so I go to settings, and restore from an earlier date.
See, now it's working. Yeah!

You Q is not perfectly luminous with meaning:
there is 'Internet Explorer' (the Windows web browser); and there is 'Explorer' which is the system's 'guide' to the various folders in the system; either of them can crash, for many reasons.
A bit more explaining what's going on when it happens would go a long way to finding a remedy.
Dunbar Pappy @ 2009-07-08 02:23:55
just close the auto-update.

1. NEVER NEVER NEVER USE NORTON OR SYMATIC CORP SOFTWARE!
2. DID I FORGET TO MENTION THAT USING NORTON IS BAD!
3. Don't Panic.
4. Start your computer and right after hitting the power button to turn it on press the F8 key over and over don't hold it down. When you see SAFE MODE use your arrow keys on the keyboard (not the mouse) to highlight it and press enter.
5. wait 120 seconds for it to start (if it does not then power it off and this time follow the same instructions but select SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT and then log in. Press these three keys at the same time Ctrl + Alt + Delete If necessary click task manager then go to the applications tab and click new task click my computer right click your Hard Drive and click properties next click tools and disk checker, check both of the checkboxes that it askes you to check and agree to restart the computer then click shutdown and restart.)
6. If your computer will not boot in safe mode try this first. Put your XP CD (thats best) or someone elses XP DISK IN your computer and boot from it. After it comes up press R for Recovery Console. Then log in. After doing this type CHKDSK /P /R and press enter. This will probably fix your problems. try restarting taking your XP disk out and see if it works. DON"T GO ON THE INTERNET YET OR MESS WITH NORTON.
Manu @ 2009-07-08 02:53:42
Pop-up messages usually indicate the presence of malicious files on the computer system.
To be sure whether your system has been infiltrated with dubious applications and infections, you should check out:
http://www.pcthreat.com/removers.html
Here you will be able to scan your system for any nefarious activity, and should there be any parasites present, you will be able to follow the removal instructions provided.
You should also update your anti-virus software. You can find the Free trial version of Avira AntiVir here:
http://www.free-av.com/
Remember to also keep your anti-spyware tools updated.
Good luck!
