Please do not do what that one person suggested and download a torrent or use limewire to get Free Antivirus. You do not need to. AVG, Avast! and Avira all do free editions of their software, but they are not as good as the paid versions and give you limited protection from online threats.

Any one of these is better than no protection at all, but you should consider paying for a good antivirus/ internet security program if you value your data and personal privacy.

You need to install a good antivirus software. The most prevelant amongst the free antivirus are AVG free and Mc Afee. I personally recommend AVG free. You will need to update its antivirus database daily, that will keep latest virus away from your computer. And also you need to take care of some basic things.

1. Always scan the removable drives like USB, Flash drives, etc whenever you insert into your computer before opening.
2. You need not surf those sites that may contain the malicious contents.
3. Avoid using free softwares whom you cannot trust.

Yes if only u are a Home User or office user with a simple internet to lan connection and thus ur PC will be given a unique public IP address to acess the internet so if the hacker had successfully installed a virus into ur PC it wont be too difficult frm then on for him to find out everything about u including ur account wherever u have made them.but if ur accessing the internet frm a cyber cafe ull be usin a lot of different PC every time u use a PC so its less likely hell be successful.To be on the safe sinde a good firewall program is required and a good antivirus software is needed.

Malware removal procedure:

Step 2: After running it, copy and paste the report into hijackthis.de
Step 3: Go back into Hijack This!, find the entries that have been flagged as harmful, and delete them.
Step 4: Install and run malwarebytes anti-malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/

If step 4 has issues, boot into Safe mode by restarting and repeatedly pressing F8. Select it, run malwarebytes again, and it should unhook some processes.

It turns out bleeping computer has the same recommendation as I do.

As someone who is working at UC San Diego's ResNet (we do manual virus removals) and someone who's dealt with the same virus on multiple machines, I would disagree with Goutam, you should actually disable your System Restore, malware loves to embed itself in the restore point and come right out again when you thought your system is clean.

Start > right click My Computer > properties > (in Vista, left hand menu Advanced Settings) > , System Restore tab, check "turn off system restore", click OK when prompted to delete previous restore points.

Run MBAM, then go back here and uncheck it so system restore will work once more after the system is clean.
